From Tom and Mera

Our Mission

Our mission is to instill hope in you...hope that pornography addiction can be overcome and that it does not have to destroy your families. Whether you are the person who is addicted to pornography or the spouse of a pornography addict, positive change is possible.

Tom BufordMan On The Road was founded by Tom and Mera Buford. It was birthed nearly ten years after Tom overcame addictions to sex, pornography, gambling, and more. Having been to the absolute bottom of the pit that pornography addiction digs for its user, he knows the sense of hopelessness, pain, and fear that the addicted one feels. [Read more]

Mera BufordMera relates easily to the wives and friends who feel inferior, neglected, ignored, and even abused because of their loved ones' addictions to pornography. [Read more]

Statement of Faith

We believe...

1. ...that the scriptures are one way God speaks to us.

The Scriptures are the revelation of God's rules of faith and conduct to man (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21). While we do not see the Bible as a rule book in any negative or derogatory sense, we do see it as being evidence that God loves His creation enough to give us a set of guidelines that, if heeded, will contribute to a long and peaceful life. We believe that the Bible is as relevant to the people of this generation as it was to the people who lived during the time that it was written. We believe that it holds the key to solving any problem that we may encounter, whether it be sexual addiction or marriage problems that result from pornography addictions.

2. ...that there is one true God.

The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Ghost (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10 - 11, Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:22). We believe that when we place our own prurient desires and habits ahead of God's desires for us, we are worshipping the creation and not the Creator, and that we have made ourselves, through our own unhealthy desires and habits, to be idols. We believe that there is no place for us to make deities of ourselves and/or our degrading habits.

3.  ...in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scriptures declare His virgin birth (Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:31, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 7:26, 1 Peter 2:22), His miracles (Acts 2:22, Acts 10:38), His substitutionary work on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3, 2 Corinthians 5:21), His bodily resurrection from the dead (Matthew 28:6, Luke 24:39, 1 Corinthians 15:4), and His exaltation to the right hand of God (Acts 1:9, Acts 1:11, Acts 2:33, Philippians 2:9 - 11, Hebrews 1:3 - 4). We believe that without the deity of Jesus Christ, we would be hopelessly bound in the pain and darkness of addiction, but that because Jesus Christ, the Son of God died for our sins and redemption, there is hope for us - regardless of how far into the pits of perversion and addiction we have fallen.

4.  ...that man is a fallen creation.

Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness."  However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, or separation from God (Genesis 1:26 - 27, Genesis 2:17, Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12 - 19). It was that fall that was ultimately responsible for the sin that we find ourselves wallowing in. It was that fall that still today gives us a nature that allows us to indulge in self-destructive behavior.

5.  ...that we are to be sanctified, or set apart.

Sanctification is an act of separation from the evil side of life, and of dedication unto God (Romans 12:1 - 2, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 13:12). By the power of the Holy Spirit we are able to obey the command: "Be ye holy, for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:15 - 16). Sanctification is realized in the believer by recognizing his identification with Christ in His death and resurrection, and by the faith reckoning daily upon the fact of that union, and by offering every faculty continually to the dominion of the Holy Spirit (Romans 6:1 - 13, Romans 8:1 - 2 & 13, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:12 - 13).

6.  ...that divine healing is available even for the twisted mind of the pornography addict.

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:4 - 5, Matthew 8:16 - 17, James 5:14 - 16). We believe that God not only heals physical infirmities, but that He also heals the minds and hearts of addicted and hurting people, making it possible for them to live life totally free from the controlling spirits that have plagued them, even for a lifetime.
